Kalanchoe sexangularis - Red-Leaved Kalanchoe

Red-Leaved Kalanchoe (Kalanchoe sexangularis) (Brown): Glossy, scalloped foliage on tall stems. Exposure to direct sun or temperatures around 40F brings out bright red stress colors, particularly on the edges and undersides of the leaves. It is native to South Africa, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe, where it grows in partial sun on rocky slopes. It is a fast, easy grower and makes a striking addition to container arrangements. Its stems can get leggy over time, but the plant takes well to severe pruning.

Soft succulents will not survive a hard frost, but if there is a risk of freezing temperatures they can be brought indoors to grow on a sunny window sill or under a grow light. They need ample sunlight, great drainage, and infrequent water to prevent rot. Pick containers with drainage holes and use with 50% to 70% mineral grit such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite. Water deeply enough for water to run out the drainage hole, then wait for the soil to fully dry before watering again.
